    Cool License not valid(4)

After reinstalling windows the lightstreamer would not startup.
In the log-file lightstreamer writes the line:
    License not valid(4). System exists

before reinstalling windows it was a valid license, no hardware changes

    This is strange.
Do you feel it is possible that the license file has been corrupted in the process?
Please, get the license again from our website.

Hello, i'm having the same problem (My OS is Windows Vista.. i don't konw if this can affect)

I`ve downloaded the distribution of Lightstreamer Moderato and i've followed the instructions of GETTING STARTED.TXT ,but when i try to launch the server, i always obtain the same message:
<FATAL> License not valid (4). System exists

I've gotten the license file several times, but doesn't work.

I have VMWare installed too... could be this the reason of the issue?

You are probably using a license for Ligthstreamer Allegro/Presto/Vivace over a Lightstreamer Moderato installation. Or you are using a Lightstreamer Moderato license over a Ligthstreamer Allegro/Presto/Vivace installation.

Make sure you get both the software distribution and the license from the same download page.

    License Files Fail

I'm trying to test Lightstreamer-Moderato on Windows NT.

I followed the directions to get the MAC address of the NICs, here is the output of ipconfig /all:

    Windows NT IP Configuration

    Host Name . . . . . . . . . : TOM
    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . : 64.105.132.252

    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . :

Since the Farallon NIC is the one that is connected to the Internet, I used its MAC address of 00-00-C5-5A-73-AA to get a license file. When that failed, I tried with a license file for the Intel NIC with a MAC address of 00-50-2C-03-4F-0C and when that failed, I tried with a license file for the PPPoE NIC with a MAC address of 44-45-53-54-77-77 and that also failed.

    I followed these directions exactly:

    -------------------------
    2) Configure your License
    -------------------------

Copy your Moderato license file to the "conf" directory (you can get
a Free License file from http://www.lightstreamer.com/downloadfree.htm).
Edit the "lightstreamer_conf.xml" file, located under the "conf"
directory. Place your ClientID in the <client_id> element.
Place the name of your license file in the <license_path> element.

    NICs:
    1> Farallon NetLINE 10/100 PCI PN993 Physical Address. . . . . . : 00-00-C5-5A-73-AA Internet
From the email: Your ClientID: Elljpdhj8Mr0VUDaE7c6x MAC address: 00:00:C5:5A:73:AA

    2> Intel(R) PRO Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . : 00-50-2C-03-4F-0C LAN
From the email: Your ClientID: Elljpdhj8Mr0VUDaE7c6x MAC address: 00:50:2C:03:4F:0C

    3> NTS PPPoE Adapter #1 (Virtual) Physical Address. . . . . . : 44-45-53-54-77-77 PPPoE
From the email: Your ClientID: Elljpdhj8Mr0VUDaE7c6x MAC address: 44:45:53:54:77:77

    lightstreamer_conf.xml
    <production>
<!-- Mandatory. Your personal ClientId (received together with the
    license file). -->
    <client_id>Elljpdhj8Mr0VUDaE7c6x</client_id>

<!-- Mandatory. Path and name of the license file for Lightstreamer Server,
Moderato Edition, relative to the conf directory. -->
    <license_path>Elljpdhj8Mr0VUDaE7c6x.lic</license_path>

<!-- Mandatory. Path of the directory in which to store the audit
log files, relative to the conf directory. -->
    <audit_logs>../audit</audit_logs>
    </production>

But the log file always has the error message "MAC address check failed" and I get alerts every 20 minutes; then the server quits after one hour.

So... what do I need to do to get this installation to work?

Any of the MAC addresses of the machine should work, not necessarily the one used to connect to the Internet. So the issue is that Lightstreamer Server cannot probably access to MAC address list. This can happen if you are using a 64-bit processor and Java 1.5 or older. Can you please confirm you are using Java 6?

    I'm using Java 1.5.

Do I need to use Java 1.6?

Your data sheet at: http://www.lightstreamer.com/docs/Li...Data_Sheet.pdf quite clearly says Java 5 (1.5).
"Lightstreamer Server runs on any platform compatible with Java ™ SE ((versions 1.4,
    5.0,6.0)including:Microsoft Windows ®,Linux ®,Sun Solaris ™."

The current version of Lightstreamer works with Java 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6. It's only the MAC address check mechanism used to validate the license that on some platforms requires Java 1.6. Not all the available Lightstreamer license types require MAC address validation.

    License Not Valid

    Dear LS team,
I have been experiencing the same issue about license validity while installing the Ligstreamer Server (Moderator version) on a development server.

My dev server has 2 NIC, 2 Quad core Intel Processor and runs on Windows Server 2008 and using Java 6.
I have once successfully run the LS server on other server (Linux) with much the same configuration except for the OS.

Are there any known issue on Windows Server 2008 ?

    best regards,Dyan Dhanisworo

We are not aware of any issue on Windows Server 2008.
Did you get a License not valid (4) error message?
Then, the most typical case is when there is a mismatch between the license type and the Server edition (i.e. Moderato vs Allegro/Presto/Vivace).
